Coup De Grace

Coup De Grace was a classic CSI episode that pits family member against family member with a daring plot full of twists. Questioning ethics and character in a one hour he-said she-said CSI fest. The theme of the episode was focused on how pride eats away any dignity one has in their own reputation.

The Crime: Outside of a White House Burger A cop Officer Flinn shot another officer Scott Johnson. By the time CSI arrived there was a crowd of the locals outside of a gate screaming murder and racism. The atmosphere was tense as the Flinn defended his actions and his racist past was brought to light. Initial thought was that Officer Flinn had performed a Coup De Grace or a shot while Johnson was down basically the taboo of the cop world. Thus the case went back and forth with tampered casing location, a racist slur caught on microphone and a shocking suicide. All the while viewers second guessed themselves through the twists and turns. Ultimately Officer Flinn had some genuinely bad eye sight causing the mixup. While Officer Johnson was shooting at a gang member who had just killed a young boy who got mixed up in the wrong stuff. There wasnt a single person who didnt look at this case as racist injustice and it just goes to show what a hot button topic racism truly is.

The Characters: It was interesting to see how all the CSIs divided among the ethics. Even more interesting was that Ray was not only the one that made the most case breaking points. Just goes to show that racial profiling is an old ignorant art. Ray didnt have hatred coursing through veins towards Officer Flinn. Brass who stood up for the cop snapped when he heard the racist sentence on the recording. Everyone else just seemed to have a professionalistic hatred. Until the pivotal last three minutes so did I. This CSI was a character study about the complexities of racism and how quick assumptions alienate people.

Favorite Parts:

Hodges: "Oh wise one" need i say more?

Ray on Flinn's death: "I was the last one he looked in the eyes" he was so chill this episode when every one else seemed to be on edge hateful.
